What is it?

The Jobsite Jobseekers Unconference is a completely free event organised with one simple objective: To help you be successful in your quest for employment or your next move.

Why are we doing this?

Jobsite is constantly looking for new ways to help make your job hunt quicker, easier and less frustrating. Whilst there are plenty of resources and networking opportunities available online, we understand that job seeking can be a lonely experience so wanted to give you a chance to meet with people going through the same thing. At the Jobsite Jobseekers unconference you’ll be able to:

  • Share experiences
  • Gain support
  • Focus the discussion and ask questions in the areas YOU need most help.

What is an Unconference?

An ‘unconference’ is like no other event you will have attended before. For a start, it's not a conference – hence the name.

  • No presentations or PowerPoint
  • The focus is on conversation, where the attendees dictate the agenda.
  • The topics are divided in to "tracks" or small groups
  • The discussion is lead by "track leaders"

The track leaders are chosen because of their experience and expertise in the topics. Their role is to start the conversation, answer questions and give expert advice. The agenda for the track, the questions and the content is dictated by you, and most of the talking comes from the attendees. The track leaders are available throughout the day if you want a one-to-one conversation.

The Unconference Tracks:

A winning CV

Your CV is usually the first impression any hiring company will have of you. It should be a sales document that opens the door to your next opportunity. If you are not getting through the door, it could be that your “sales” document is not stacking up. What information are you listing? Can you be found in a key-word search? Are you hidden in the CV database ? Do you need a new CV for every opportunity? All this and more.

Spreading the net

Online should only be one part of your active job hunt. There are also plenty of opportunities to network offline effectively and get yourself noticed. Trade Associations, Job Fairs, Chamber of Commerce, Trade Shows even Tweet-ups. All present the opportunity for you to get in front of people and make an impression. What events to target? How do you research attendees before the event and make connections? Are you a wall flower or over the top? Learn strategies and tactics to make the most of every opportunity.

Social Media Circus

Are you all of a twitter when it comes to social media? What does your social-media footprint say about you? Do you think Facebook is just for friends or are you making more of it in your job search? Do you filter opportunities and know who to target? Find your way through the social media maze to your best advantage.

Interview Excellence

Don't drop the ball at interview once you get through the door. How many times have nerves got the better of you? How often do you come unstuck by the tough questions? Share your experiences with other job seekers and identify the areas you can improve. Get tips and a plan to overcome past problems. Learn the best ways to research and prepare, how to control stage fright and how to answer the tough questions.

Make a Recruiter Your Friend

Love them or hate them, it can’t be denied that a good recruiter will give you access to your next opportunity as well as realistic feedback on the market.  What does a recruiter look for in order to make you a priority candidate?  How do you build a relationship without being a nuisance?  Do recruiters really advertise positions that don’t exist and interview just to meet targets?  Meet with recruiters and ask them face to face.

Linking In

LinkedIn is a vast database of potential connections, but is it more than that?  Is your profile 100% complete?  How many groups do you belong to and how active are you in them?  How often do you answer or pose questions, take part in polls, or add new connections?  Find out how to research and identify potential employers and reach out to them as well as conduct research prior to interview.

The Jobsite experience

Jobsite is designed to take the hard work out of job hunting for you but do you take full advantage of the services available? Is your Jobs-by-Email returning all of the relevant jobs that it could be? Is your CV searchable? Are you doing the most effective job searches? Let Jobsite show you how. Jobsite would also welcome your feedback in this session

Going it alone

You may have considered striking out and working for yourself as your next move.  There are lots of routes you can take from franchising to setting up a Limited company.  Meet with the Jobsite founders and pose your questions.  It’s not Dragon’s Den, we are much more friendly!

Success Stories

Sometimes it feels like you are getting nowhere in your quest for employment and you no doubt feel like throwing the towel in.  We’ve invited some special guests who not so long ago were in the same boat as you and have now achieved success in their job search.  Share in their experience, find out how they did it, and leave with a plan that will help you achieve your goal.

Legal Advice

You may have questions regarding the law in relation to redundancy, contracts, redeployment, maternity/paternity leave, data protection or a whole host of other issues.  Share your concerns with an expert legal team over anything you may wish to raise.  Understand your rights in the job search and make sure you are well informed.

Big Brother

Increasingly video and video interviewing is playing a part in the job search.  Video need not be daunting and offers great potential for self promotion.  In this track you will not only be able to discuss the role of video but will be able to have the opportunity to make you own promotional  video short that might just help open some new doors.

Telephone success

The telephone interview is more than just a call.  What are the hiring managers really looking for?  Are you preparing in the same way as you would do for a face to face interview?  How should you project yourself on the phone to make the right impression?  Draw up a plan for selling yourself on the phone with some expert sales coaches.

Be noticed blogging

A blog can really help you to promote yourself as a brand, but where do you start?  What platforms are available to you for free?  What content will help you to stand out and how do you get your blog in front of the people you need to be reading it?

All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of a new book co-authored by Keith Potts (founder of Jobsite). Called “Why Should I Work For You?” it contains all of the information you should need to help you find and get the right job for you.

Tickets are free but attendance is restricted to 150 people, to ensure everyone gets the full attention they need.  Bring your questions and comments, get fully involved and we will provide the rest.
